In 1918 the Reagan family moved from Galesburg to the beautiful maple tree lined streets of Monmouth. At the young age of 7, Ronald Reagan settled into the family home located at 218 S. Seventh St and began second grade at Central School. Jack Reagan supported the family by selling shoes at the prestigious E.B.Colwell department store at 208 S. Main St The building was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1993.
Ronald attended half of second grade and most of third grade at the old Central School. There is a plaque inside Lincoln Elementary School, Central School’s successor, commemorating Ronald Reagan’s installment in the school district’s Hall of Achievement.

An educational exhibit detailing the life and times of America’s 40th President is housed at the Monmouth area Chamber of Commerce located at 90 Public Square, Monmouth, Illinois. The hours are Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM. Phone 309-734-3181. The exhibit features memorabilia of Ronald Reagan’s historical ties to Monmouth.
